New State League Head Coach – Alex Johnson

On behalf of the committee I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Alex Johnson as the new Head Coach of the Penrith State League Squad.

Alex is a Greater Western Junior who went on to play college baseball in America at Grayson County College, Texas where he won a Junior College World Series in 2008. When he returned to Australia he played for the NSW Patriots in the Claxton Shield the year before it became the ABL. Following this Alex was one of the inaugural Sydney Blue Sox players where he was the leading home run hitter for the Blue Sox and in the top 5 hitters in the ABL in that opening year. As well as his professional career, Alex brings experience from his time at the New South Wales Institute of Sport Baseball Academy and the MLB Academy on the Gold Coast.

Alex has played with Penrith Baseball for many years and has been a part of our back to back championship team in the 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons. Alex is a family man at heart and is excited about the prospect of working with club members and our junior base to continue to develop the successful, and more importantly enjoyable baseball we embrace here at Penrith Baseball Club. Alex brings a wealth of experience to the club and we are certainly very excited to move into the next chapter of Penrith Baseball with Alex at the Helm and look forward to an exciting season.

I would also like to welcome Alex’s list of coaches for the 2017/18 season which include; Aaron Sookee, Craig McCarthy, Logan Glover, Kenny Oldfield, Peter Godbold and Lindsay Salt.
